Chuck Pagano Amazed by How Quickly the Colts have Caught on

Chuck Pagano has his work cut out for him. The new Indianapolis Colts head coach takes over as the team officially begins the post-Peyton Manning era. But on the bright side, he’s got Andrew Luck, and — apparently — a team that is catching on fast.

Chuck Pagano joined JMV on 1070 The Fan in Indianapolis to discuss his personal transition from coordinator to coach, the team’s quick transformation with a new coaching staff and the maturity already being displayed by rookie quarterback Andrew Luck.

On what’s different about being a head coach after a career as a coordinator:

“Well there’s a few other things that you gotta handle organizationally. Gotta make sure everybody knows where they’re going, field’s set up, where are individuals, where are 7-on-7′s. Those type of things from an organizational standpoint. But everything else, it’s football.”

On how quickly the team has caught on:

“I’m really impressed with how well they picked things up in a short period of time. We obviously had a great offseason, and attendance was fantastic. And that helps where we’re at today, but just them being able to digest what we’ve given them, and the way they pick things up, and where we’re at right now has been pretty amazing.”

On rookie quarterback Andrew Luck:

“He comes as advertised. He’s an amazing young man. He’s obviously extremely bright, he’s handled everything really well. He’s come in here, he’s a humble guy. He hasn’t come in here, he’s not a boisterous guy, and basically earned the respect of the coaching staff and the teammates just by his playing and what he’s been able to do on the football field.”
