Nationals acquire Kurt Suzuki from the Athletics

The Washington Nationals have acquired veteran catcher Kurt Suzuki from the Oakland Athletics for catcher David Freitas the team announced. Before the trade deadline, the Nationals were involved in talks with the Rangers regarding Yorvit Torrealba, but they didn’t go nowhere.

Suzuki, 28, hit .218/.250/.286 with 1 HR and a 49 OPS+ in 278 plate appearances for the A’s this season. Freitas, 23, was hitting .271/.371/.407 with 5 HR’s and a .780 OPS in 321 plate appearances for the Nationals’ Class-A+ team this season.
