Phillies trade Joe Blanton to the Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired right handed pitcher Joe Blanton from the Philadelphia Phillies according to Andy Martino of the New York Daily News. Jim Bowden of ESPNxm adds that the Phillies get salary relief and a player to be named later.

Earlier this week, the Orioles were trying to work out a deal with the Phillies that would have sent Blanton to Baltimore, but the deal fell through.

Blanton, 31, is 8-9 with a 4.59 ERA, 1.5 HR/9, 1.2 BB/9 and 7.8 SO/9 in 133.3 innings for the Phillies in 2012.
